3. LAR — Aaron Donald

Aaron Donald is one of the most feared DL in the NFL. He just clinched his 3rd Defensive Player of the Year award, joining JJ Watt and Lawrence Taylor as the only other defenders to do so. He turned 30 this off season, and has plenty of prime years ahead of him.

Like DeForest Buckner, Donald has to do his work form the interior, often times being double-team blocked. That is to say he has 2 or 3 offensive lineman blocking him on most plays. He is the unquestioned leader of the LA Rams, and with their secondary in a state of change he will be asked to shoulder even more of the Rams success.

Donald’s stats show his fantasy production comes from pressure. He had 27 QB hits, 13.5 sacks, 14 Tackles for loss, all with only 27 tackles. He forced 4 fumbles which helped earn 163.10 points, good enough for 2nd DL.

It would seem logical to say there would be regression, but Aaron Donald is not a player to doubt. Although sack dependent, he is worth an early grab in most IDP formats. If it is a league that favors tackles, it could be wise to let him slip as he was not in the 2020 DL top 25 for tackles. He will reward you with large point games, as he usually gets his sacks in bunches. Donald is a plug and play DL for IDP purposes, and should be treated as so no matter where he is drafted.
